A Traveler's Guide to Croatia

The beautiful country of Croatia is the place where the Adriatic Sea meets both mountains and plains in which are set some of the most beautiful cities in eastern Europe. Because of this, Croatia has more than 10 million tourists every year and they stay for an average of almost five days. Croatia also takes pride in being the 18th most popular tourist destination in the world.

Tourists are drawn to Croatia by its clean beaches and the clear waters of the Adriatic. It has numerous tourist attractions, from nature reserves to cycling tours along the beautiful coastline. It is not surprising that most tourists visit the Adriatic coast.

Even for experienced travelers there is one thing everyone needs when exploring new places. It is not difficult to guess what that might be! Of course most people need a map to get around. Many tourists have missed marvelous sights by just not bothering. Croatia is no exception; a Croatia map is a must when exploring this wonderful country.

Zagreb is Croatia's largest city, and is also its capital. This too is a magnet for tourists. You will definitely need a map of Zagreb in order to see everything there is to see. These days however, there's no need to stand on street corners with a very large and unwieldy paper map. Many people have smart phones now, and are able to access maps on the internet very easily. You will find that Zagreb has a very European feel, but combines the best of the east and the west. There are lots of museums and galleries to explore which you will have no trouble locating when you consult your map of Zagreb on your smart phone.

Split is the second largest city in Croatia, as well as the regional capital of Dalmatia. It is built both inside and around Diocletian's Palace, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. Split is on the coast and is a major transport hub. It has a wonderful cathedral which also lies within the walls of Diocletian's Palace. It also has a magnificent wooded park and a pleasant harbor, both of which are ideal for relaxing walks. Again you will be consulting your map of Split to be sure that you don't miss a thing.

You will definitely need a map of Dubrovnik when you visit this amazing city. Lord Byron called it 'The Pearl of the Adriatic', and this description is borne out by the sight of its marble buildings reflecting the Adriatic sun. Dubrovnik has had a very varied history and this is shown in the churches, monasteries and museums with their finely carved stone ornamentation.

If you are visiting a country with an uncertain climate, you will find that your smart phone comes in very handy indeed for checking the daily weather forecast. You will never be caught wearing the wrong clothing again! Croatia's climate is warm and pleasant in the summer, but cools down in October, so if you visit then you will need to check the weather before you venture out.
